People do also appreciate well-cared-for gear, so it raises your reputation too.
As such, you really should repair your equipment at every available opportunity. On this page, we show you how to repair your weapons, armor and clothes - either yourself or with the help of a merchant.
Where to get an NPC to repair your armor, weapons, clothes and gear
While money is often pretty hard to come by in Kingdom Come Deliverance and early on you'll likely be saving up to geta horse, the quickest and easiest way to get your gear cared for is to pay somebody else to do it. Special vendors and craftsmen exist who specialist in certain types of gear, so you'll find yourself running from one side of a village to another in order to get everything you need done. Not all locations have all the different repair vendors, and some locations don't have any - it really depends on the standing of the town.
Anyway, check out any given town for vendors. For weapon repair you'll need a swordsmith or a blacksmith. For armor repair, an armorsmith or blacksmith can do the job. Clothes can be repaired by a tailor.
This is a nice quick, easy way to get your gear repaired - but it's also costly, and money can be pretty hard to come by in Kingdom Come Deliverance's unforgiving, realism-driven role playing. How to repair armor, weapons and clothes in Kingdom Come Deliverance yourself for free
Among his various skills protagonist Henry has a skill called 'Maintainence'. This skill pertains to your ability to repair gear on your own - something that will save you a lot of money while also improving this skill at the same time. Early on in the game you're not going to be skilled enough and will be forced to pay vendors as described above, but over time you'll be able to build this skill up to do more on your own, and if you're really determined you can grind it out at the start of the game.
One thing you can do from very early on is use the grindstone found around various armor and weapon merchants to sharpen your swords. You can use this equipment yourself without causing offense, and this is actually one of the ways you can clean your sword when it's been bloodied by battle. In the sword sharpening mini-game you simply need to line up the sword so that it throws sparks, and keep going until it's pristine. Successfully sharpening your sword will improve your maintenance skills.
The way your maintenance skill works is that the higher it levels the more complex repairs you'll be able to make. Early on you'll only be able to repair inexpensive, basic items and only when they're still in relatively good condition. As you level higher, you'll be able to repair more expensive and impressive kit and repair stuff that's more badly damaged.
When you're in a position to repair your armor, clothing, bows and so on, you'll want to use a kit. These can be found or purchased from shops, though even if you buy them it works out quite bit cheaper than paying a vendor or merchant to repair.
Repair kits come in small and normal versions, with the normal kits allowing you to make larger repairs more reliably. Armorer's Kits are used for armor, a Blacksmith's kit is used to repair weapons and a Tailor's Kit will repair clothing. Remember, each time you repair you'll level up your maintenance, so as you do it you'll gradually get better over time.
